Why Warhammer Online Failed

An EA insider has aired dirty laundry over what went wrong with Warhammer and what could this mean for the upcoming Bioware Star Wars MMORPG. Quoting: ‘We shouldn’t have released when we did, everyone knows it. The game wasn’t done, but EA gave us a deadline and threatened the leaders of Mythic with pink slips. We slipped so many times, it had to go out. We sold more than a million boxes, and only had 300k subs a month later. Going down ever since. It’s ‘stable’ now, but guess what? Even Dark Age and Ultima cialis en francais have more subs than we have.  How great is that? Games almost a decade [old] make more money than our biggest project.” The (unverified) insider, who calls himself EA Louse (named after the EA Spouse who brought to light the company’s excessive crunchtime practices) says similar trouble is ahead for the development of Star Wars: The Old Republic. EA has not commented yet. God of War creator David Jaffe has criticized the insider for having unrealistic expectations of working in the games industry.

UK Police Force Posts All Its Calls On Twitter

One of the largest police forces in the UK is posting every incident reported to it today on Twitter. Greater Manchester Police began its 24-hour experiment this morning at 05:00 BST, tweeting all incident reports in the hope of highlighting the complexity of modern policing. ‘Policing is often seen in very simple terms, with cops chasing robbers and locking them up,’ Chief Constable Peter Fahy said in a statement. ‘However the reality is that this accounts for only part of the work they have to deal with.

Huge Shocker? 3D TVs Not Selling

It comes as no surprise to the vast majority of us who haven’t rushed out to buy a 3D TV, but according to a Display Search report consumers aren’t doing their part to make 2010 the year of 3D TV, says blogger Peter Smith. And the stats are even worse than Smith imagined they’d be: DisplaySearch estimates that 3.2 million 3D TVs will be shipped in 2010. Note, that’s shipped, not sold. 3.2 million equates to 2% of all flat panel displays shipped (as far as I can ascertain, that’s worldwide shipments). So yeah, there are not many 3D TVs being shipped this year. But wait, that’s not the end of the bad news. In Western Europe (the only region where they offered this data point) sales of 3D glasses are less than 1 per 3D set sold. In other words, a lot of Western Europeans who buy a TV with 3D capability don’t even bother to buy the glasses to use that feature.

Government Admits Spying Via Facebook

Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg famously said that the age of privacy is over. And the government wants to ensure that,it seems. The Electronic Frontier Foundation’s FOIA request has revealed government memos encouraging agents to befriend people on a variety of social networks, to take advantage of their readiness to share and to spy on them. Thanks to this request, the government released handful of documents, including a May 2008 memo detailing how social-networking sites are exploited by the Office of Fraud Detection and National Security (FDNS), and one revealing how the DHS monitored social media during the Obama inauguration.”

Devs Grapple With 100+ Versions of Android

The scale of the challenge facing Android developers has been laid bare by Twitter client TweetDeck. During beta testing of its new software, [0]TweetDeck encountered more than 36,000 testers using an enormous pool of 244 different handsets. Not only was hardware for the platform fragmented, but Tweetdeck had to contend with more than a hundred different versions of Android, highlighting just how muddled the market is for the open-source platform. The splintering of Android is making life difficult for app developers. ‘It’s not particularly harder to develop for Android over iPhone (from a programming standpoint),’ said Christopher Pabon, a developer who writes apps for both the iPhone and Android platforms. ‘Except when it comes to final quality assurance and testing. Then it can be a nightmare (a manageable nightmare, mind you).

Google Maps Adds Drone Imagery

Google Maps has now added new non-satellite imagery when you zoom in close enough. Google has purchased a few Drones. Mystery solved! The public would like to see Google’s explanation for the close-up images. No explanation has been given by Google….hmmmm.

Internet Dismantling the State Church In Finland

A Finnish secular web site that facilitates electronic resignation from the Finnish state church gained wide attention in the media this week. A gay rights TV panel discussion was followed by thousands resigning from the church. On Wednesday, 2633 people resigned through the web site, which is more than all the resignations in July. The Internet is secularizing the Finnish with increasing speed; over 90% of resignations in Finland go through the site administered and marketed by hobbyists driving Finland towards a secular, non-religious state.

Tablets Are Game-Changers For Special Needs Kids

The rise of mainstream tablets is proving to have unforeseen benefits for children with speech and communication problems and may disrupt a business where specialized devices can cost thousands of dollars. iPad apps like Proloquo2Go ($189) aim to help individuals with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), cerebral palsy, down syndrome, developmental disabilities, ALS, traumatic brain injury, aphasia, apraxia, and more. Even Steve Jobs didn’t see this one coming: ‘We take no credit for this, and that’s not our intention,’ said Jobs, who’s been touched by email he gets from parents of special needs kids for whom the iPad is proving to be a life-changer. ‘Our intention is to say something is going on here,’ Jobs added, suggesting that researchers should ‘take a look at this.’ Even though they might cost significantly less than dedicated devices, SUNY speech pathologist Andrea Abramovich explained Medicare doesn’t cover consumer tablets because they could be used for non-medical purposes.

Hosts Don and Brian talk about games and random shiznit

1. Late Arrivals by Developers!

Many Game Fans are upset about Sony’s announcement to delay shipping of Gran Turismo 5. Yes this game has been a long time in the making but there have been plenty other developers that have kept Game Fans waiting. Prime examples of this is the HUGE awaited 15 year Star Craft II by Blizzard. This has been one of the most await anticipated games even though it was a huge wait they still delivered. The same goes for Marvel Vs cialis jelly Capcom 3 by Capcom, Final Fantasy XIII by Square Enix, and Stargate Worlds by Cheyenne Mountain which was never even released. The point of this article is that Gran Turismo 5 fans shouldn’t bitch to much because there have been plenty of fans that have waited for other games. Just deal with it!!

2. Medal of Honor Review after last Tuesday’s release.

Medal of Honor holds up to the anticipation and hype but still doesn’t compare to the multiplayer and campaign mode of Modern Warfare 2. The Medal of Honor is more realistic and violent in nature compared to MW2.

3. Microsoft’s Huge Marketing Campaign for Christmas!

Microsoft is ramping up for a huge marketing blitz this Xmas to push the controller free Wii Killer launching on November 4th! Microsoft is reporting that they will be allotting a half-billion dollars towards a movie style campaign to promote the Kinect. These commercials have been directed by Steven Spielberg. Microsoft wants to make sure that they remain a major player in the video game console market due to failure to keep up in the smart phone and tablet wars. Microsoft have already struck promotional partnerships with Pepsi, Kellogg’s, Burger King, YouTube, ABC and Nickelodeon to mention a few. I really feel this is going to be Huge for the Xbox which keep them in running for the console wars.

5. If you haven’t seen the Live Action Trailers for Halo Reach, we have put them up on the site for your viewing enjoyment. But this is a Raw Rant edit!!

6. Video Game Design as popular career choice

The video game industry continues to gain traction as software developers are looking for new video game designers to help with new projects. A list of accredited colleges for video game design are Devry University, Westwood College, The Art Institute, and Kaplan University. Submit your application if this is seems like a career path for you!

7. Hideo Kojima’s different philosophy of Video Game Design

Fans are currently awaiting Hideo Kojima’s release of Metal Gear Solid: Rising but he has another project that his team is working on and will most likely be releasing prior to MGS: Rising. In the article provided by Siliconera, they discuss Kojima’s views on the difference between Japan and Western styles on developing and designing video games.

Kojima: “The differences between the creators in Japan and the West in this industry… Japanese creators try to express the game’s environment through beautiful artwork, but western developers use technology to draw out the environment. The Japanese make the models and textures carefully to create a world. The West use shaders, lighting, shadows, effects, and programming to create their world.”

Please click on the link below to view the full article on Kojima’s views. It’s pretty interesting!

8. 3D Gaming Guide

With 3D technology being reintroduced into the homes with new advancements from to the home theater experience continues the experience into the gaming arena. The current console platforms that support 3D Gaming is Playstation 3 and the XBox; unfortunately the Wii console is not currently supporting the 3D market even though Nintendo has released announcements about the 3D DS. PC Gamers of course have the biggest advantage over console’s when it comes to 3D Gaming due to the optimization options one can build on a computer. A gamer will need either a TV or monitor that supports 2D-3D, and 3D Glasses that is supported by the game console or PC Video Card. For a more in depth guide to 3D Gaming please read the article at IGN:

NY Comic Con was this weekend.

Huge and amazing turn out. I think this was the 1st time it was held in NY. Glad to see it gained a lot of tranction

Will the PS3 ever out sell the Xbox or Wii now that they have the new Move and price cuts.

PS3 is a great machine but of course still has a couple of flaws such as the 80G version is only backwards compatible which only backwards compatible for a few games. The 40 and 60G are not backwards compatible

Online community is not that large compared to the Xbox Live Community.

Listeners I would love to hear your thoughts on this. Please comment on our site.

Sony’s Move is now available in most countries. Micro Soft is set to release the Kinect next month. We will have to wait and see which console gains the most momentum and sales over these several months for Xmas.

Medal of Honor is set to be released this Tues Oct 12.

It looks really amazing…really looking forward to this game. Definitely going to be a contender for Modern Warfare 2. But Blacks Ops is coming out next month as well. 2 Great FPS games coming out.

The video interviews that they created is pretty awesome for the marketing of this game. Developers EA mentioned the they consulted with real special ops team members for the creation of the game.

Force Unleashed 2 is scheduled to be released this month on October 25

New video released by Sony on how to choose the right HDTV

Information is brief but could be useful if you are in the market for purchasing a TV right now.

Has specializing in integrated voice chat for MMO’s since 2006. This is similar to the other popular services such as Ventrilo and Team Speak. Vivox has just announced that they have successfully implanted the system to the PS3 Platform. This service will be able to link the voice system between PC and PS3 users. They are currently beta testing this for the new game DC Universe Online. This is  great for cross-platform communication.

Dragon Ball Raging Blast 2: Opening Cinematic…Looks amazing!!

I’m excited about this because the game play finally has the same feel and look as watching the fighting sequences in the anime.

Problem with the past Dragon Ball Z games is that the game play was horrible and didn’t feel anything like the anime.

I really hope this one holds true!

Will Call of Duty: Black Ops out beat Modern Fare 2.

MW2 is developed by Infinity Ward and BO is developed by Treyarch. Both under the Call of Duty Franchise but different developers. I’m excited to see what Treyarch can bring to this franchise.

MMO News:

WoW’s new expansion Cataclysm is scheduled to be released this December 7th. As a former WoW addict, I am very curious on how this new expansion is going to be with the new races. The Horde will be gaining the Goblins and the Alliance will be gaining the Worgen which is like a werewolf race. The expansion will be taking place in the old world of Azeroth.
