NeoGeo Classics Set for PSN
Fatal Fury, Samurai Showdown, Magician Lord and more on the way for downloadable play.
Add one more platform to PSN’s growing archive lineup. Next up following PlayStation and PC Engine games are NeoGeo titles courtesy of SNK Playmore’s new “NeoGeo Station” service.
SNK Playmore’s take on the retro gaming thing appears to be a bit different from Sony and Hudson, though. NeoGeo Station games will be available for both PS3 and PSP. However, different from the PC Engine and PlayStation libraries, SNK Playmore is selling separate versions for each platform.
The PS3 versions are being priced a couple of hundred yen above the PSP versions. Other differences include full online play and friend list support for the PS3 versions. The PSP versions will support ad-hoc multiplayer play.
The new downloadable versions will feature updates from their original releases. You’ll be able to save button layouts, screen size, volume adjustments, startup menu skip and other options. Each game will also have a music playback feature and a replay mode (store up to 8 replays per game).
The games will also have “state save.” Press select, and the pause menu will open up. From here, you can select to save your state to restart later.
These are digital releases, so they obviously won’t come with manuals. To make up for this, SNK Playmore is including digital in-game manuals. These can be viewed from the information menu before the start of the game and from the pause menu. Fighting games will also have a readily viewable command list.
The initial lineup of titles hits on December 22 and will include:
- Fatal Fury (Garoudensetsu)
- Metal Slug
- The King of Fighters ’94
- Samurai Spirits
- Super Sidekicks (Tokuten-o)
- Art of Fighting (Ryuuko no Ken)
- ASO II Last Guardian
- League Bowling
- Baseball Stars Professional
- Magician Lord
Prices for these titles are around 900 yen for PS3 and 700 yen for PSP.

Sony PSPhone / Zeus Z1 To Run Android 2.3 Gingerbread. Release Date to be announced soon
Even though nothing is official yet (Sony is expected to reveal the phone and announce a Playstation Phone / Zeus Z1 release date at a press conference on December 9), more and more PlayStation Phone pics and videos continued to leak. In one of the clips (owned by Engadget.com), there is even actual proof of some gaming on the Zeus. While some details have yet to be announced (such as weather the Z1 will support PSP games), this one is shaping up to be a device we’ll most likely talk about more and more in the future. Reason ? With small exceptions (Angry Birds is one), mobile games failed to provide any real, long-lasting positive gaming experience. If the Sony Playstation Phone / Zeus Z1 can deliver, chances are it will receive the
A video release shows the Playstation phone as being somewhat thicker than is the norm these days. It purports to be a genuine release with the Playstation icon on the device clearly shown (not that such a thing could not be faked). As and when it is released let us hope some of the popular Playstation games come along with it. Justification for this is in the fact that the device is somewhat thicker and bigger than is usual, making for easy handheld gaming. The Playstation Phone is claimed to have a 1GHz Qualcom CPU and 512 Mb RAM, 1Gb ROM and a microSD card slot. It will be a touchscreen phone but the size could be anywhere between 3.7 to 4.1 inches.
For gamers playstation is expected to provide a multitouch pad on the lower half of the slider phone which it is made out to be. It will run Android 2.3 Gingerbread OS.
Whether gamers are enthused about this phone remains to be seen and one awaits the official release announcements.
